Belize Sees Increased Airlift From Canada

For many years, it was difficult and expensive for Canadians to visit Belize, a lovely gem of a country located just south of Mexico. But now, thanks to increased competition between WestJet and Air Canada, it's now easier and more affordable than ever for Canadians to escape the cold and snow and enjoy a sunny vacation in Belize.

Starting in October 2016, low-cost carrier WestJet began flying non-stop from Toronto's Pearson International Airport to Belize City, a journey that only takes approximately five hours. After the winter 2016/17 season ended, WestJet decided to continue these flights. And earlier this year, WestJet announced that it will be adding a new weekly flight from Calgary, Alberta to Belize City starting on November 3, 2017.

Not to be outdone, Air Canada announced that it too will begin serving the popular Belize travel market. Starting on December 15, 2017, Air Canada will be operating a weekly non-stop flight to Belize City from Toronto.

As a former British colony, Belize is the only country in Central America where English is the official language. Although very sparsely populated (around 360,000 people total), Belize is known for its friendly locals. And thanks to its geography, Belize enjoys delicious sunshine and warmth all year-round. The average daytime high on Christmas Day in Belize is 95F (35 C), perfect for sun tanning and walking along the beach in a T-shirt and shorts.

As the least densely populated country in Central America, Belize is a natural wonderland. Home to more than 600 species of birds, exotic wildlife like jaguars and black howler monkeys, and fragrant flowering plants like orchids, Belize is truly the ultimate getaway vacation destination.

Offshore, Belize has hundreds of islands strung along a vast barrier reef, the second-largest in the world. Popular activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, and fishing. And the pristine rainforests and jungles on the mainland are home to waterfalls, caves, wildlife, and adventure.

Caves Branch Lodge was founded by Ian Anderson, a fellow Canadian man from Vancouver who fell in love with the beauty of Belize's rainforest and jungle. For more than 20 years, Caves Branch has been helping guide Canadians and other visitors from around the world to some of the most beautiful, exciting, and awe-inspiring places in the country.

In 2012, Canadian travel writer Robin Esrock selected Caves Branch as one of the world's best jungle lodges.

Caves Branch warmly welcomes Canadians and is proud to be the only Belize jungle lodge in the country to accept Canadian dollars at par with the U.S. dollars. The Lodge has a complete range of Belize all inclusive vacation packages that include all the best that the jungle and sea have to offer.
