As many ocean experts can tell you, the “drop off” in sea terms can mean the edge of the sea floor – the point where you encounter the drop into the unknown. In Caves Branch terms however, this can also mean the unknown, but in a slightly different sense. Many visitors choose our lodge because of the sense of fascination with adventure, the Belizean rainforest, dark caves, off-beaten path experiences, among the dozens of other excellent reasons.

Your first full day is the start of an exciting adventure, only explained to you by either the tour guide who helped you decide on the adventure the night before, or what you have read on our website. Little can you imagine that the day’s events will be the defining point in your personal life. About 40% of our guests are either claustrophobic (sometimes even unknown to them) or afraid of heights, snakes, jungle environments and a list of other things.
Imagine first, being at the edge of a 300ft deep Black Hole, a natural sink hole in the foothills of our estate, leaning into your ropes at the top and trusting every strand of those ropes as you back down into the black depths below you, only hearing your guide as he encourages you onwards. Think of the raw fear that grips you at that very moment… you have NEVER done anything like this before!
Picture your second scenario, standing at the top of a 15 foot wall of gushing water inside the Waterfall Cave, having to jump into a dark and narrow “window” below, which by the way feels more like 50ft instead of just 15. Imagine the fear as you feel your chest compressing with the sheer nervousness of having to jump into the unknown…think of the drop and the landing as you dive in!
It is moments like those that determine a point in your life where you accomplish something new and unexpected for the very first time… something that you never imagined you could bring yourself to do, a new YOU is born!
While we tell visitors the stories over and over, recounting how big men have cried at the top of the black hole or women screamed to death as they jump off the waterfall, experiencing it for yourself – becomes your story, your reality!
