Staying at Caves Branch is awesome…it literally goes without saying, but we do admit that for many of our guests, it’s tough to decide exactly what to do and see during your visit. Here is a little guidance to help with your plans and decisions to keep fun at the forefront of your Caves Branch experience!
1. Waterfall Cave Expedition – If you thought you have seen it all before… think again. In no way, shape or form will you ever experience adventure quite like this! Encounter a cave like none other as you begin your journey into the rainforest of our 50,000-acre estate and into a wild cave filled with mystical wonder and natural limestone formations, centuries old. As you trek through the underground cavern, your guide will point out ancient Mayan ceremonial centers and carved stellae left behind by the ancient priests of a lost civilization. As you near the thundering waterfalls your adrenaline spikes, as does your anticipation that cannot be imagined until you see it with your own eyes – cascading waterfalls plunging down one into the other in eternal waves. Conquer each of them right up to the last one and then thread your way back down plunging into the pool at the bottom of the tallest fall… making 15ft feel like 30ft. Return to the lodge with the most amazing feeling of adventure and achievement. You won’t believe it until you do it yourself!
2. Black Hole Drop… and you thought the Waterfall was bad, wait till you see this baby! Trek into the foothills surrounding Caves Branch adventure base camp and up to the higher elevations arriving 90 minutes later at the edge of an enormous 300ft deep limestone sinkhole. By the time you get to the top, you will feel like you just scaled the north face of Mount Everest but the ending beats the beginning in a million emotions that will flood your soul. As your guide hooks you up to the safety lines, your adrenaline will peak as you literally step over the edge into the abyss. Once the initial throat-gripping fear lets you go (at about the same time you find yourself dangling in the wind) you can enjoy the scenery in one breath-taking experience of a lifetime. Once at the bottom, you can pat yourself on the back for living to tell your story – it’s all in the game of ADVENTURE!
3. River of Caves 7 Mile Float – Ian introduced caving & cave tubing to Belize tourism in the mid 90’s and since then, the ever popular 7-mile float has been the most requested cave tube experience at Caves Branch. Cave enthusiasts pop themselves into tubes for the literal 7 mile ride down the Caves Branch River, a tributary to the legendary Sibun River, careening past native orange groves, limestone towers and into the world of darkness. This cave system is one of Belize’s most famous landmarks and the ride takes you in and out of a total of 6 caves, each connected by this amazing and colourful waterway. As you past windows to the outside world the sunlight beams in, creating eerie shadows and enchanting scenery of turquoise blue water & limestone cave entries. 4. Cheese House Tasting Tour – If you are a foodie or just LOVE cheese, you need to sign up for this fascinating experience. Our on-site cheese house features 12 Artisan cheeses made fresh and stored in an ice cold vault. Tasting tours are offered Mon- Fri from 3pm-4pm and you can sign up at the guest services desk. Groups experience a wonderful blend of tastes as the cheese presentation includes fresh fruits and freshly made breads (you can order a glass of wine from the bar and bring along with you for the tour- wine not included). Learn about the variety of cheeses produced and the process taken for each cheese. Not only can visitors taste the creations, they can purchase cheese to take home when they checkout. 5. Dinner Buffet – Regular “All inclusive” plans at most popular Mexican or Caribbean resorts NEVER provide you with enough tasteful and delicious food all in the same sentence. Our buffet however will beat the socks off anyone who downplays this meal extravaganza. Starting with a 6pm appetizer of freshly made corn chips and a selection of dips and salsa offered each evening, your Broadway styled intro brings out the best in pasta, salads, soups and breads…add a little cheese with that to make it even more successful. The first course is followed closely by the main attraction – featuring some of the best of Belize. This production provides options to dazzle your senses once again. Word of advice… pace yourself at the very start or you will NEVER have room for even half of the third or main course, much less the final fourth round – dessert! Just one attempt at dinner will leave you longing for every other night to follow. Fresh, native fruits and vegetables, local and regional dishes complement some traditional international favourite’s with a Belizean twist.
