Planning a Trip? Here’s Why You Should Be Headed to Belize

An article published on April 20, 2017, in the Economic Times lavished high praise on the country of Belize, recommending it as a top destination that is "brimming with a rich variety of experiences that are waiting to be explored." The Economic Times, a subsidiary of India's largest English-language daily newspaper, the Times of India, published a travel section that recommends interesting places to visit for its readers.

The Economic Times travel article on Belize highlighted the country's interior, referring to "lush green jungles" that are home to more ancient Maya sites than anywhere else in the world. The Economic Times article also made positive mention of Belize's melting pot society, a country where Maya, Creole, Garifuna, and Mestizo cultures all harmoniously live side by side.

The other main attraction in Belize recommended by the Economic Times article is the enormous Belize Barrier Reef, part of the second-largest barrier reef in the world after Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Home to "colorful reefs", Belize's vast offshore domain contains hundreds of islands, atolls, and tiny rocky outcroppings that provide shelter and nesting grounds for as many as 20% of all known marine plant and animal species.

The Economic Times article mentioned that Belize has a full gamut of lodging options that range from budget hotels, youth hostels, and small villas to luxury resorts, eco-lodges, and privately-owned islands. Regardless of one's choice in accommodations, Belize was touted in the article as an ideal family destination that includes wildlife sanctuaries, pristine rivers, enormous caves, beautiful lagoons, and palm-fringed beaches.

Last, but certainly not least, the Economic Times extolled the deliciousness and variety of the local cuisine, with each cultural group in Belize contributing their unique culinary heritage. Top foodie activities recommended by the Economic Times article include chocolate tours that begin at the farm where cacao is grown and harvested and end in a local kitchen where participants learn how to make chocolate according to centuries-old Maya recipes.
